Biography
Rosa Parks was the Montgomery seamstress and NAACP secretary whose arrest on December 1, 1955 for refusing to surrender her bus seat helped launch the Montgomery bus boycott. Police booked her and released her on bail later that evening. She was convicted on December 5 and fined $10 plus $4 in court costs. On February 22, 1956, Parks voluntarily surrendered with other boycott leaders indicted under Alabama’s anti-boycott law and was released on bond the same day.
