Biography
Daisy Bates was the president of the Arkansas NAACP and a mentor to the Little Rock Nine. After city officials demanded the organization’s membership records, a warrant was issued on October 31, 1957. Bates surrendered on November 1, was booked, and posted $300 bond the same day. She was later convicted and fined, but the U.S. Supreme Court reversed the conviction on February 23, 1960.
