Biography
Dr. Albert E. Perry Jr. was vice-president of the Union County NAACP in Monroe, North Carolina, and a close ally of Robert F. Williams. After helping lead a campaign to desegregate Monroe’s municipal swimming pool, he was prosecuted for performing an abortion in a case the NAACP denounced as retaliation for his civil-rights work. A retrial produced a two-to-three-year sentence, and Perry ultimately served eleven months at Caledonia Prison Farm.
