Suzanne Williams
Biography
Known as Suzi Williams, of Rochester, NY, one of the eight arrested Sept 6, 1970. She conducted her own defense, cross-examining an FBI agent at trial. Convicted and sentenced to twenty to thirty months.
The September 1, 1971 Sufferings roster places this prisoner at Alderson Federal Womens Reformatory, West Virginia and identifies affiliation with Mount Toby Meeting, Massachusetts (attender). The roster confirms confinement at its reporting time without establishing an exact admission, transfer or release day, a new case, or a complete actual duration. The March 1, 1972 Sufferings report places Williams in solitary confinement at Boyd County Jail, Catlettsburg, Kentucky, serving a six-month sentence after she and Ralph Squire tried to visit Joan Nicholson. It explicitly corrects the earlier sit-in account: there was no sit-in and none planned. Horace Champney's letter explains that they persisted in what they believed a lawful, orderly visit and attributes the sit-in report to a bad telephone connection. Her earlier draft-records sentence had ended September 3; the new sentence is distinct, and its nominal six months is not a completed custody duration. Friends Journal reports that, before the Flower City prosecution, Williams had actually served fifteen months in federal prison for destroying draft files in Boston. This is a separate completed term from the Rochester case; the source does not supply its admission or release date. Williams and DeCourcy Squire refused bail and remained jailed throughout the Rochester trial. By February 1971 Williams was confined at Alderson, West Virginia.

After her September 3, 1971 release, Williams joined the Ashland prison sit-in with Ralph Squire. Friends Journal reported a new six-month sentence and $500 fine and placed her at Boyd County Jail in Catlettsburg, Kentucky.
