Charlie Hill
Biography
Charlie Hill, also known as Charles Lee Hill and Rashad, was a member of the Republic of New Afrika. New Mexico authorities accused Hill, Michael Finney and Ralph Goodwin of killing State Police Officer Robert Rosenbloom during a November 8, 1971 traffic stop outside Albuquerque. State authorities charged Hill with murder on November 25, and federal warrants and charges followed. The three men hijacked TWA Flight 106 to Havana on November 27 and received political asylum in Cuba. Cuban authorities initially detained them, but the available accounts do not establish exact custody dates. Hill was never returned to the United States or tried on the American charges.
The Miami Herald reported on October 14, 1980 that Hill and Michael Finney had been freed in May or June 1980 and were then living in Cuba. This uncertain two-month window is not an exact release date or evidence of uninterrupted custody since 1971.
