Biography
Masai Ehehosi was a Black Liberation Army member arrested after a January 25, 1975 shootout at a Norfolk, Virginia store in which he was shot in the face and his comrade Kombozi Amistad was killed. Ehehosi and Safiya Bukhari were convicted after a one-day trial and received 40-year prison sentences. After his eventual release, Ehehosi became Co-Minister of Information of the Provisional Government of the Republic of New Afrika, a founding member of Critical Resistance, and an organizer supporting political prisoners through the Jericho Movement and other groups. His exact release date remains unresolved.
The family and Critical Resistance memorials confirm birth September 12, 1948 and death April 1, 2024 after release, describing fourteen years in Virginia prison, AFSC Prison Watch work and CR membership from 2001 to 2024. The memorial’s 1973 capture conflicts with the established January 25, 1975 arrest chronology; neither that conflict nor rounded service years is used to invent endpoints. Jihad Abdulmumit’s tribute describes meeting him after Jihad’s release and parole, not a new release date for Masai.
