Biography
Nehanda Abiodun, born Cheri Laverne Dalton in Manhattan on June 29, 1950, was a New Afrikan organizer associated with the Republic of New Afrika, the Black Liberation Army and the New Afrikan People’s Organization. Federal prosecutors charged her in November 1982 in connection with the 1981 Brink’s robbery and Assata Shakur’s prison escape. She was never apprehended or tried. Abiodun lived in exile in Cuba, where she became an organizer and mentor in Havana’s politically conscious hip-hop community. She died at her home there on January 30, 2019.
