Sid Mills

Clarence “Sid” Mills, Yakama and Cherokee, was a wounded Vietnam veteran who publicly refused further military service in October 1968 and joined the treaty fishing-rights struggle at Frank’s Landing. He was arrested during the Fish Wars, but the reviewed sources do not establish an exact jail term. On March 8, 1970 military authorities confined Mills and other participants in the Fort Lawton takeover in the provost marshal’s jail before issuing expulsion letters. Mills returned on March 15 and was charged with violating the expulsion order; the exact duration of either detention has not been located.
