Biography
J. M. Hanson was one of seventeen Sisseton farmers actually jailed on rioting charges after a United Farmers League delegation restored Henry Nieland to his foreclosed farm. The article explicitly says all seventeen were subsequently out on bail raised by the league. Initials are retained; he is separately named from Bert Hanson. A threatened minimum ten-year sentence is not a conviction or completed term; exact custody dates and duration are not supplied. Labor Defender, April 1934, original PDF page 6.
