Biography
Bert Hanson was a Roberts County, South Dakota farmer involved in the United Farmers League's resistance to farm foreclosures. In 1934 he was one of seventeen farmers jailed on rioting charges after a delegation restored Henry Nieland to the farm from which he had been evicted. The league raised bond money to free the farmers pending trial. Hanson had five children and a wife who was ill. The defendants were acquitted at their June 1934 trial in Sisseton.
