Biography

Louis Rieck was a United Farmers League member arrested with other Roberts County, South Dakota farmers after they returned the evicted Henry Nieland to his farm near Sisseton. The farmers were taken to jail on riot charges, and the league raised bonds for their release. International Labor Defense attorney Arthur Le Sueur helped defend them. A jury acquitted the seventeen defendants in 1934. Rieck attended the United Farmers League convention that June, where he and four fellow defendants were introduced to the delegates.
