Biography
Robert Lehrer appeared before the House Un-American Activities Committee at its Gary, Indiana hearing on February 11, 1958 and relied on the First Amendment in refusing questions about his education, residence and alleged Communist Party activity. A federal grand jury indicted him for contempt of Congress on July 17, 1959. The government asked to postpone his trial indefinitely in 1960 because witnesses were unavailable. No conviction or confinement was established.
