Civil confinement order and corroborated release
Torres Maldonado's history, printed page 172, dates the confinement order to June 21, 1982 and cites contemporary Claridad reporting. The reproduced personal account places initial custody in Puerto Rico before transfer to New York, so an exact New York admission day is not inferred. Printed page 174 records actual release September 25, 1983, before the eighteen-month limit, because the grand jury period was not renewed. The authorized official federal locator returns Ricarte Montes-Garcia, 01364-069, age 77, with the same September 25, 1983 custody endpoint. This agreement supports the release date; no exact initial arrest or admission day is manufactured. The original 1983 grand-jury flyer also individually captions his photograph and describes his confinement. Existing portrait retained; no new image asset copied.
An August 1982 letter to The Militant identifies Ricarte Montes García as a teacher from Ciales and father of five, held in New York for refusing grand-jury testimony. Its eighteen-month phrase is not treated as demonstrated completed service; stronger previously documented release and month-precision admission are preserved.
