Biography
Cathlyn Platt “Cathy” Wilkerson was an organizer with Students for a Democratic Society and the Weather Underground. She survived the March 6, 1970 explosion at her father’s Greenwich Village townhouse, where Weather Underground members Diana Oughton, Ted Gold, and Terry Robbins died while assembling explosives. Wilkerson then lived underground for ten years. She surrendered to the Manhattan district attorney on July 8, 1980 and was released on bail that day. After pleading guilty to unlawful possession of dynamite, she began serving her sentence on January 6, 1981. A judge released her on December 22, 1981 after 350 days and resentenced her to probation. Wilkerson later worked as a mathematics teacher and wrote a memoir of her years in the Weather Underground.
