Biography
R. S. Kling was a Communist candidate for mayor of New Haven who was jailed in New Britain, Connecticut, on August 1, 1931, after attempting to speak at an antiwar demonstration attended by about two thousand workers. He was charged with breach of the peace. The Communist Party and International Labor Defense organized protests, and he was freed in New Britain court on Saturday morning, August 8, 1931. The source gives his initials only.
Daily Worker, August 8, 1925, page 2: The Shelton report dated August 6 says that he and Rose Markle, both New Haven Communists, had been arrested several weeks earlier for violating an ordinance against leaflet distribution. They distributed a Connecticut Trade Union Educational League letter to Shelton Looms/Blumenthal workers assessing the recent weaving strike and urging organization. Each was fined $2 plus costs, making $17.76 each. The account distinguishes those arrests from the subsequent Monday street meeting, which went ahead without arrests. No exact arrest day or actual confinement duration is supplied. Source: https://www.marxists.org/history/usa/pubs/dailyworker/1925/1925-ny/v02b-n179-NYE-aug-08-1925-DW-LOC.pdf
