Biography
O. E. Gordon was a shoemaker from Columbus, Ohio. O. E. Gordon was convicted at the mass IWW trial in Wichita and sentenced to seven and a half years in prison. He served in the Cook County Jail and Leavenworth Penitentiary from November 1917 to December 23, 1922.
The March 1920 One Big Union Monthly prisoner roster, under the printed name GORDON , O. E., reports: Federal. Indicted Wichita, March 14, 1918. Conspiracy. Convicted Dec. 1919. 7½ year sentence. Leavenworth Federal prison. This is the contemporary labor organization’s account. Indictment, bail and imposed sentence are distinguished from physical admission, actual release and complete time served; no missing custody endpoint is inferred. The General Defense Committee’s printed-page-53 report says it hoped to obtain bonds soon for O. E. Gordon and the other named federal IWW defendants. This was a prospective defense effort, not an actual release. In particular, it does not replace independently recorded custody dates or establish uninterrupted confinement from its wording alone.
