Biography
Morris Zucker was a Socialist from Brooklyn, New York. Morris Zucker was sentenced to fifteen years in prison for giving a seditious speech.
1920 s custody review: The June 26, 1920 Ashland Daily Tidings, page 4, reports that President Wilson pardoned Zucker while his appeal was pending and that he had not served the prison sentence. It names Atlanta as the intended prison, not Leavenworth. Tim Davenport's editorial chronology accompanying the May 1921 Communist article identifies January 20, 1919 as sentencing, not prison admission, and describes his subsequent activity outside custody. The former January 1919-to-June 1923 Leavenworth interval is therefore withdrawn. Any earlier jail detention and bail require separate documentation; the pardon is not entered as a physical release date. His later detention in Soviet Russia is a separate episode, not an extension of this U.S. case. No securely identified portrait was established.
The presidential-clemency table in the 1921 Senate amnesty hearings records a sentence imposed January 20, 1919: Fifteen years. Unconditional pardon June 23, 1920; the Attorney General says the entire charge concerned a speech at a socialist meeting on November 28, 1918, sixteen days after the armistice. A pardon, commutation, nominal expiration or parole eligibility is not itself evidence of the day of physical release; the imposed or reduced term is not a measured time served.
