Biography

John Pollard was the South Carolina state president of the United Textile Workers. A May 20, 1936 Spartanburg dispatch individually reports his jailing with five other unnamed strike leaders on charges of conspiring to deprive people of their constitutional rights, followed by release on bond. It places this arrest before the separate May 19 mass arrest of eighty-one workers headed to picket the Spartan mills. The two groups are not combined into another personal arrest, and no individual arrest day or completed detention length is supplied.
