Biography

J. J. Moore participated in the Selma voting-rights campaign as a teenager. On January 19, 1965, he joined his mother at a courthouse sit-in seeking the right to register to vote. Sheriff Jim Clark’s officers arrested him and other demonstrators, took them to a cattle yard and then confined them in the Selma jail. Moore later recalled spending about three days there. He also took part in the Selma-to-Montgomery march. He later moved to Portland, Oregon, where he operated Affordable JJ Lock and Key.
