Biography
Richard Morrisroe was a Chicago priest and Catholic Interracial Council member. He survived a shooting shortly after his six-day Hayneville detention.

In a 1994 firsthand memoir in The Witness, Gloria House Manana identified Chicago priest Richard Morrisroe as a participant in the 1965 grocery-store picket that led to the group being jailed in Lowndes County. She recalled the group being forced from jail at gunpoint on release and Morrisroe being shot in the back near the store afterward. Her account connects his detention to the civil-rights demonstration and documents the violence following the release; it does not establish a different custody interval.
