Biography
Jonathan Myrick Daniels was an Episcopal seminarian and civil rights worker. After six days in jail, he was killed protecting Ruby Sales.
Gloria House Manana recalled in The Witness in 1994 that Jonathan Daniels joined freedom-school work in Selma and efforts to integrate the local Episcopal church with children from the community. She identified him among the participants arrested during a Lowndes County grocery-store picket and described the group being transported to jail on a garbage truck. Her eyewitness account describes his killing shortly after the detainees were forced out of jail. The memoir is supplementary context, not a replacement for the contemporary six-day detention record.
