Biography
Barrows Dunham was chairman of Temple University's philosophy department. After he refused to answer most questions before the House Un-American Activities Committee in February 1953, Temple suspended and later dismissed him. Congress cited him for contempt on May 11, 1954, but a federal judge directed a judgment of acquittal at his October 19, 1955 trial. He was not jailed in the case.
