Armando Gomez
Biography
Armando Gomez (El Doctor), age 70, FARC associate; extradited from Colombia and pleaded guilty to conspiring to import cocaine into the United States. 120 months federal prison + 3 years supervised release; credit for time served in Colombia.
The Bureau of Prisons records his release from federal custody on March 25, 2026.
Colombia’s Supreme Court issued a favorable extradition opinion on July 10, 2019 in CP070-2019, docket 52930, concerning the April 4, 2018 Southern District of New York indictment in 18 Cr.262 (VEC). It identifies the requested person as Armando Gómez España, also known as Armando Gómez and El Doctor, and records an affidavit supporting extradition from Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason A. Richman. The court rejected the defense’s mistaken-identity argument after reviewing diplomatic and fingerprint records. It also rejected renewed requests to transfer the matter to Colombia’s peace jurisdiction, explaining that the JEP had declined jurisdiction because the required FARC accreditation was absent; U.S. allegations alone did not establish eligibility for that protection. The opinion called for credit for detention attributable to extradition and protection of procedural rights. This was an extradition-stage opinion, not proof of an executed U.S. transfer, a conviction or a new custody endpoint. Existing custody dates and counters remain unchanged.
