Biography
Alberto Rodríguez was born in the Bronx in 1953 and raised in Chicago. He organized for Latino studies and student recruitment at the University of Illinois and later worked in community education and employment programs. Federal authorities arrested him on June 29, 1983 while he was working as an academic counselor at Northeastern Illinois University. He was convicted of seditious conspiracy and related charges connected to the FALN and received a 35-year sentence. President Bill Clinton commuted his sentence in 1999, and Rodríguez was released on September 10 after more than 16 years in custody.
The individual sentencing clauses in the presidential clemency record, corroborated by the Justice Department advisory, establish the original federal sentencing date as 1985-10-04. This corrects the differing legacy sentencing entry for the identified prosecution. Sentencing is not treated as prison admission. The 1999 commutation was conditional; its date, proposed release schedules and rounded years served do not establish actual physical discharge or an exact custody total.
