Biography

William Simons was the director of the Chicago Workers School. The January 27, 1926 Daily Worker reports his arrest during an East Chicago, Indiana memorial meeting, initial detention without a disclosed charge, and attorney David J. Bentall learning of an accusation of advocating overthrow of the government. It explicitly reports his release after a $4,000 real-estate bond was supplied. The preliminary hearing was scheduled for January 25; that scheduling is not a conviction. Exact physical arrest and release days and completed custody are unknown.
