Biography

Uselis was a union railroad worker arrested and beaten by Gary police during the 1922 railroad strike. At his wreck trial Dr. H. M. Hosmer described injuries observed August 30, 1922 and the defense presented an alibi. The Worker reports a jury unable to agree after forty-three hours, divided nine to three for acquittal. The paper challenges the alleged confession and attributes the prosecution to railroad and police efforts to blame strikers. No given name, final verdict or discharge is established.
