Biography

William Cleary, also known as Bill Cleary, was a Bisbee lawyer and Socialist whom Leslie Marcy's September 1917 International Socialist Review account individually identifies as forcibly deported with the miners during the July 12, 1917 Bisbee roundup. The report places the expelled group under armed restraint and subsequently at Columbus, New Mexico. It describes Cleary's attempt to send a telegram to Governor Hunt. No individual criminal conviction, exact custody discharge or complete duration is established. The July 21 collective liberty order is not treated as proof of his own physical discharge that day.
