Biography
Wounded survivor of the Dec. 4, 1969 police raid on Fred Hampton's Chicago apartment; The Black Panther Vol. 15 no.13 (1976) reports the indictments against the raid survivors were dropped after the police lab evidence was found to be falsified.
A February 20, 1970 FBI memorandum identifies the December 4 raid survivor as Donnette Verlina Brewer. It cites Ann Arbor police records for a January 10, 1952 birth date. A confidential-source report dated December 11, 1969 says she had already returned home to Michigan, where her parents were arranging removal of a bullet from her leg. This supplies an observation that she was home by December 11, not an exact discharge date. The memorandum’s characterization of the raid as a shoot-out is a police assertion and is not adopted here as an independent finding.
