Birth-year sources
- Associated Press report published by Deseret News, April 2, 2000 — identifies Tony Alexander Hamilton as 58 following his conviction, supporting 1941 as his birth year.
- United States Court of Appeals record — independently documents Hamilton’s identity and Utah convictions.
Federal habeas review
A federal court order dated September 23, 2016 confirms Hamilton's original sentencing date of May 18, 2000 and the Utah Supreme Court's affirmance of his convictions on May 9, 2003. It records an earlier federal habeas petition filed September 4, 2003, later consolidation, denial in May 2006, and an unsuccessful appeal in October 2006. Judge David Nuffer dismissed the later petition as an unauthorized second or successive habeas application and declined to transfer it to the Tenth Circuit. This dismissed the habeas proceeding, not the underlying convictions, and did not order release. The opinion gives inconsistent 2015 filing dates for the later petition; neither is used as a custody date. It supplies no physical admission or release date.
