Biography
Tom O'Connor was a Newspaper Guild president involved in the 1939 Huntington Park Bulletin strike in California. Voice of the Federation, September 28, 1939, page 7 identifies him in a photograph behind jail bars. Its caption reports four American Newspaper Guild members arrested for operating a sound truck after authorities refused a license. The four brought a 100,000-dollar civil-rights damages action against Police Chief W. L. Hultquist, Mayor Elmer E. Cox and publisher Max Ward. The source names only two of the four detainees.
