Biography

Tom Joyce, identified as a Toronto peace activist, was arrested during a December 30, 1981 antiwar blood-pouring action at the Pentagon. He refused release on personal recognizance and remained in the D.C. jail. A January 17, 1982 prisoner-support report confirms continued custody after a January 8 court appearance.

Contemporary anti-nuclear custody report

The New London update reports Tom Joyce refused a guilty-plea deal, his charges were dropped January 29, 1982, and he was released that day after thirty days in jail. This is actual release and served time, not merely a sentence. The existing December 30, 1981 to January 29, 1982 interval and thirty-day counter are preserved.

Contemporary 1983–1984 custody evidence

Tom Joyce was arrested during the Pentagon protest December 28, 1983 and arrested again December 30; the report expressly distinguishes that on the latter occasion he was held in custody. It says he was convicted the following week of blocking and actually served 22 days. No physical discharge day or 22-day continuous interval from the earlier December 28 arrest is invented. This is separate from the already-recorded December 1981–January 1982 detention.
