Biography

Tom Anthony Cordaro, born September 29, 1954 in Des Moines, is a Catholic peace activist, writer, and organizer. He worked in campus ministry at Iowa State University and later served in leadership with Pax Christi USA and Catholic peace organizations. Cordaro was prosecuted after returning to Offutt Air Force Base during the Nagasaki Day peace action on August 9, 1982 despite an earlier barring letter. Sentenced on December 14, he began a 15-day jail term on January 3, 1983. He continued organizing against war and nuclear weapons and became a Pax Christi USA Ambassador of Peace.

Reported release, not forecast day

The original sentence-service report and recently-out list were fully visually reviewed. Exact discharge day remains unresolved. Brother FrankCordaro's longer custody and release are not assigned to Tom.

Separate November 1983 Offutt imprisonment

The report individually states that Tom Cordaro began serving a fifty-five-day sentence November 15, 1983 for repeated entry onto the Strategic Air Command headquarters grounds at Offutt Air Force Base. It names his Sandstone federal-prison address. Actual discharge is not printed; early January in the roster is a forecast. This is not Tom’s January 1983 fifteen-day stay or his brother Frank Cordaro’s cases.

Cases

Charges: Re-entry after barring letter — August 9, 1982 Nagasaki Day protest at Offutt Air Force Base
Arrested: Aug 9, 1982
Sentenced: Dec 14, 1982
Incarcerated: Jan 3, 1983
Released: January 1983
Sentence: Fifteen-day ordered term; original Nuclear Resister 014, physical page 9, individually dates January 3, 1983 sentence service and only forecasts discharge by January 18. Its physical page 10 directory separately names Tom Cordaro as recently out. Actual release is therefore January 1983 at MONTH precision, not a proved January 18 day. Stored January 3 is an earliest-bound placeholder, not proof of same-day discharge. Fifteen documented sentence days remain distinct from an exact served-duration calculation. Existing portrait retained.
