Biography

Brent Vanderlinden is a Catholic peace activist associated with the Des Moines Catholic Worker. On December 28, 1981, he joined a Feast of the Holy Innocents witness at Offutt Air Force Base near Omaha, Nebraska, where demonstrators entered the base to deliver a peace message to the Strategic Air Command’s targeting staff. Military authorities detained the group for several hours, issued barring letters, and released them. Vanderlinden was later sentenced on April 27, 1982, to 45 days in jail with 35 days suspended and one year of probation. He served the remaining ten days.

Contemporary anti-nuclear custody report

The SAC update distinguishes the March 16, 1982 verdict from future sentencing in the December 28, 1981 Offutt/Strategic Air Command protest. Brent Vanderlinden, Wayne Siebleman, Nancy LaMusca, Barb Katt, John LaForge and Kristen Layng were found guilty; Bill Balsinger was acquitted; Joyce Glenn and Frank Cardiello pleaded no contest. The six-month figure was maximum exposure, not actual served time. This March verdict does not replace the separately sourced later April 27 sentencing date or ten-day custody evidence.
