Biography
John Frank Cardiello, known as Frank, was a Catholic Worker organizer, psychiatric nurse practitioner, and peace activist. While studying theology at Creighton University, he helped organize the Omaha Catholic Worker House men’s shelter and community kitchen and coordinated food donations for its programs. Cardiello entered Offutt Air Force Base during the Feast of the Holy Innocents peace witness on December 28, 1981. Military authorities detained him for several hours, issued a barring letter, and released him that day. He later earned nursing degrees and practiced geriatric psychiatric nursing in Helena, Montana. He died March 30, 2006.
Initial Offutt detention verified
The complete original Nuclear Resister issue 10, printed page 3, names Frank John Cardiello among the December 28, 1981 Offutt activists taken into military custody, given barring letters and released after several hours. The missing admission now records that brief detention, not a prison sentence. Existing exact arrest and same-day release are corroborated. Zero whole calendar days is not zero custody hours. Original contemporary detention report, page 3.
The family obituary connects John Frank, known as Frank, with the Omaha Catholic Worker House, Creighton studies and later psychiatric nursing practice in Helena. This identity bridge distinguishes him from his physician father and unrelated attorney or finance namesakes. Original family obituary.

Contemporary anti-nuclear custody report
The SAC update distinguishes the March 16, 1982 verdict from future sentencing in the December 28, 1981 Offutt/Strategic Air Command protest. Brent Vanderlinden, Wayne Siebleman, Nancy LaMusca, Barb Katt, John LaForge and Kristen Layng were found guilty; Bill Balsinger was acquitted; Joyce Glenn and Frank Cardiello pleaded no contest. The six-month figure was maximum exposure, not actual served time. This March verdict does not replace the separately sourced later April 27 sentencing date or ten-day custody evidence.
