Biography

Steve Loper participated in the 1987 Mount Rushmore protest against acid rain and subsequently served time in South Dakota custody.

Karen Pickett’s March 20, 1988 Earth First! account individually names the five Mount Rushmore protesters and reports their January 25 federal-magistrate appearance, $500 fines, three-month suspended sentences and thirty days in federal jail in Rapid City. It says they served that term; readiness for release in late February is not an exact actual-release date.
