Contemporary follow-up resolves sentencing and release month
Karen Pickett's March 20, 1988 Earth First report names Ken Hollis among five Rushmore defendants and dates their sentencing January 25: thirty days jail, three months suspended and a $500 fine. It places completion of their initial term at the end of February; the continuation explains why Mike Roselle refused probation and remained jailed. Original front-page report; continuation, printed page 5.
Roselle's participant memoir identifies Hollis among those who signed probation papers and left. Its early-December court timing and three-year probation recollection conflict with the contemporaneous reports; those retrospective details are not adopted. February release therefore has month precision only. The exact admission and discharge days remain unknown. The original report's distant action photograph does not individually identify Hollis and is not assigned as his portrait.
