Biography
Steve Clemens is a Mennonite-rooted peace and justice activist from Pennsylvania who registered as a conscientious objector during the Vietnam War. While living at Koinonia Farm in Georgia, he joined the February 10, 1981 prayer pilgrimage inside the Pantex nuclear weapons assembly plant. He refused bond, was sentenced to six months, and remained in custody until July 7, 1981. Clemens later organized against weapons production and the School of the Americas, joined peace delegations to Iraq and Afghanistan, and helped found the Iraqi and American Reconciliation Project in Minnesota.
Additional individually documented custody
The Georgia nuclear-train report individually names Joe Cohen, Mark Reeve, A.B. Short, Steve Clemens, Tom Kline, George Ostensen and Katy White as arrested at Montezuma in May 1985. It explicitly states all seven spent five days in jail before release on bond, later pleading no contest for time served. Exact May arrest and physical release days are not supplied. This is not the February 1986 overnight train blockade described separately in the article.
