Biography

Schmieder is identified by surname in H. Austin Simons's first-person Fort Leavenworth account as a fellow prisoner who taught biology with Clark Getts in the inmates' Wire City night school during 1919. The account is printed in the September 1919 Liberator. No given name, individual charge, sentence, initial admission or physical discharge is supplied. A June 18 transfer of five unnamed faculty members does not establish that Schmieder was among them.
