Biography
Roger “Blue” Lewis was a member of the Southern California Black Panther Party. He was held in Los Angeles County Jail during the prosecutions of the chapter in 1969 and 1970. Alongside other jailed Panthers, he protested broken windows, inadequate blankets and conditions on the cell row; the party’s legal-defense committee reported that guards beat him after he pressed for improvements.
The November 1 issue reports that Roger “Blue” Lewis was held without bail in the new Los Angeles County Jail on a murder charge; Paul Cross was described as held in the old county jail in the same prosecution. The party disputed the accusation, saying neither man knew the victim. These are contemporary defense allegations, not a judicial exoneration.
