Separate proceedings and custody chronology

Ramzi Ahmed Yousef was taken into custody in Islamabad on February 7, 1995 and transported to the Southern District of New York on February 8. He was convicted in two distinct proceedings: the airliner-bombing conspiracy on September 5, 1996, and the World Trade Center bombing on November 12, 1997. On January 8, 1998, he received 240 years for the World Trade Center bombing and a consecutive life sentence for the airliner plot. The October 22, 2026 BOP locator lists register 03911-000 at Florence ADMAX with a life term.

The Federal Judicial Center’s 2022 National Security Case Studies, printed pages 30–31, distinguishes the February 7, 1995 Pakistani arrest from February 8 transport to the Southern District of New York. Neither date establishes admission to a named U.S. prison. Printed page 31 records the September 5, 1996 airliner-plot verdict and the distinct November 12, 1997 World Trade Center verdict. It expressly attributes the January 8, 1998 terms: 240 years for the World Trade Center bombing and a consecutive life sentence for the airliner plot. Note 184 cites the court judgment and appellate decision and independently connects register 03911-000.

The FBI’s 1996 report described a then-future sentencing and World Trade Center trial. Those forecasts are not used as completed events; the later FJC court chronology independently supplies the actual outcomes. Separate case rows preserve the distinct prosecutions. The February 1995 arrest is attached only to the original World Trade Center proceeding; no arrest is invented for the later airliner prosecution. Neither row receives an inferred jail-admission day, release date or calculated custody duration, so overlapping imprisonment cannot be counted twice. BOP status is a current profile-level confirmation, not an independently dated admission to either case.

Federal Judicial Center (2022), printed pages 30–32, especially notes 175, 180–184; FBI 1996 report, printed pages 9 and 13; BOP locator, register 03911-000, October 22, 2026.

The INS chronology submitted to the December 19, 2001 congressional hearing records Yousef’s September 1, 1992 arrival at JFK, brief detention and fingerprinting, followed by release to pursue asylum. This earlier arrival episode was separate from his February 1995 capture.
