Biography

R. Kevin McGuire was imprisoned in connection with nonviolent resistance to nuclear weapons. R. Kevin McGuire and Mike Palacek crossed the Strategic Air Command headquarters line on October 27–29. The first two days they were released off base. On the third morning, October 29, the FBI took them into custody; probation was revoked and McGuire received one year. He appears in this issue’s current-prisoner directory. Thus actual multi-night custody is documented, but the one-year imposed term is not actual completed time and no final release is supplied.

The Nuclear Resister No.36, December 9, 1985, original page 2 and original page 4 prisoner directory.

The reviewed issue documents actual political-protest imprisonment. No race, birth or death date, other identity expansion, exact release from a projected date, or current custody status is inferred. Only explicit actual completed days are entered as a documented subtotal; imposed terms alone are not counted.

Additional original custody evidence

The Strategic Air Command update says Kevin McGuire was sent to jail after the September 9, 1985 proceedings, but after eleven days his sentence was changed to the suspended sentence and probation given the other defendants. Eleven days are explicitly actual jail service, not the six-month nominal term. No precise physical admission or release is printed, so the sentencing day is recorded separately and no discharge is back-calculated. This completed September stay is distinct from his October 29 arrest and later probation-revocation imprisonment.

SAC September 9, 1984 arrest and October 3 sentencing. The current Leavenworth directory confirms actual confinement but not exact intake. This is not the separate 1985 prosecution.
