Biography

A July 12 Ventura report in the July 23 Western Worker identifies R. D. Coleman organizing unemployed workers after relief cuts and supporting milk for children and abolition of forced-labor camps. After Mrs. Coleman filed a complaint over denied grocery relief on June 8, the paper says Coleman was arrested during the night and released on recognizance June 11, with preliminary hearing set June 19. The article says his wife was not notified to attend and that Coleman demanded a trial with ILD and Relief Workers Protective Union support. No separate exact nighttime arrest day or final adjudication is supplied. Source: https://www.marxists.org/history/usa/pubs/westernworker/1934/v3-n27-31-jul-1934.pdf#page=14
