Biography
Phan Nguyen is a Vietnamese American anti-war organizer and writer who worked with Port Militarization Resistance in Olympia and Tacoma, Washington. Tacoma police arrested him on March 11, 2007 after he tried to enter the designated protest area at the Port of Tacoma carrying a backpack. Prosecutors charged him with disobeying a traffic officer under a rule barring backpacks from the protest zone. The municipal court dismissed the case, and the dismissal was upheld in September 2008. Nguyen later joined a civil-rights suit challenging the arrest and police restrictions. The accessible court record does not state how long he was held.
