Biography

Nellie Main Barnes (August 5, 1860 - August 20, 1950) was a member of the National Woman’s Party and one of the "Silent Sentinels" imprisoned during the 1917-1919 campaign to picket the Wilson White House for woman suffrage.

She was arrested on November 10, 1917 while picketing and sentenced to fifteen days. Doris Stevens does not conclusively identify her facility as Occoquan, and the surviving record does not establish her entry and discharge dates or whether she completed the full fifteen days, so no custody dates are entered.
