Biography
Naomi Williams was a nineteen-year-old Black Panther Party member who volunteered with the People’s Free Medical Research Health Clinics’ sickle-cell program. Oakland police first arrested her in early January 1974 for soliciting charitable donations without a permit. Although lawyers arranged for the clinic volunteers to appear together on January 21, police surrounded the party’s headquarters with more than ten squad cars and arrested Williams again at 9:15 a.m. on January 15 on a failure-to-appear warrant. Williams surrendered immediately. The available report does not establish an overnight booking, release date or final disposition.
