Biography

Matilda Young was a member of the National Woman's Party and one of the "Silent Sentinels" imprisoned during the 1917-1919 campaign to picket the Wilson White House for woman suffrage. Doris Stevens recorded her term as: November 10, 1917: 15 days; January 1919: one five-day and one three-day term.

The suffrage-prisoner appendix distinguishes Matilda Young's November 1917 picketing sentence from two terms actually served in January 1919: five days for a watchfire demonstration and three days for applauding suffrage prisoners in court. The latter terms have no verified individual admission or release dates and are not assigned calculated calendar endpoints.
