Biography

Lewis Wayne Griggs was a U.S. Army soldier and one of 21 American Korean War prisoners who refused repatriation. He crossed into China on February 24, 1954 and was assigned to a collective farm with Otho Bell and William Cowart. The three returned in July 1955, were arrested and then released because their dishonorable discharges had ended military jurisdiction. Griggs later earned a sociology degree from Stephen F. Austin State University.
