Biography
Leon Dent was a member of the Black Liberators in St. Louis. Police stopped Dent and Charles Koen for a broken taillight on September 13, 1968, arrested them and took them to the Ninth District station, where officers beat both men. Police charged Dent with carrying a concealed weapon—a comb—and charged both men with resisting arrest and destruction of city property. The charges were later dropped, and an internal investigation led to the suspension of six officers. The sources reviewed do not establish an overnight jail stay.
