Biography

Lawrence Gilson was a striker in the Venice celery fields, arrested April 26, 1936, on an alleged deadly-weapon possession charge. The June 4 Western Worker reports that the ILD furnished $1,500 cash bail and that Grover Johnson would defend him at a trial scheduled for June 3 in Los Angeles Superior Court, Department 46. The defense paper describes the prosecution as a frame-up; no trial result is established by this prospective notice.
