Biography
Kwaneta Harris is an incarcerated Texas journalist, abolitionist feminist, former nurse and senior writer and editor at Solitary Watch. Her work examines sexual abuse, solitary confinement and reproductive justice in prison. Columbia Journalism Review reported in March 2025 that Harris said officials punished her reporting through arbitrary solitary confinement. That allegation concerns treatment during imprisonment and is distinct from her original criminal case. In a March 2025 first-person Marshall Project essay, she described imprisonment for killing a boyfriend whom she described as abusive, and reported eight years in restrictive housing between 2016 and May 2024. The reviewed sources do not establish that this entire period resulted from journalism retaliation. TDCJ denied the sexual-abuse and grievance-retaliation allegations addressed by the Marshall Project. Solitary Watch identifies Harris as an incarcerated journalist in its current author biography.
